There’s always something going down at Realmdigital. This time an exciting debate on android vs iPhone has been occurring in the realm camp. Jacques, Shaine and Dylan are loyal iPhone users where as Simon swears by his Android HTC. This is what they had to say (or rather shout about).
Simon argued that his reason for choosing Android was pretty simple, "Extensive research has shown that Android users generally seem to be better people with less insecurities. While the Android app market currently has far less apps, its growth rate shows it will soon leave the iTunes app store in the dust. In 3 months the Android market grew 50% from 15 000 apps to 30 000 apps. There are also large selections of handsets to choose from when wanting an Android device."
Jacques on the other hand believes a year and half ago the iPhone was the only smart phone that offered powerful features as well as being intuitive and dead simple to use. "The large touch screen with easy to use interface that only need your fingers to navigate is probably the feature that made the iPhone so popular and has since been copied by most smart phone manufacturers. The integrated iPod also means that you have your music and videos wherever you go."
Both phones offer great applications whilst Simon makes use of Swype, Aldiko, Google Sky Map, Shazam, Where's my Droid, Gesture Search and AK Notepad, Jacques mostly uses Mobile Safari, Facebook, Hootsuite, Tomtom, Supersport and news24.
When asked what type of people the iPhone attracts, Simon candidly stated "I would rather say that the iPhone has been shown to be far more of a status symbol... for hair dressers and drivers of Smart Cars. The type of people I don't want my daughter (as yet nonexistent) dating. Seriously though, there are some good people that use iPhones for good reasons and then there are the guys who are blindly loyal and use iPhone because that is all they know...these people are they same folk still wearing t shirts with massive pictures of ZX Spectrums emblazoned on. You know who I'm talking to..."
Jacques smartly replied "iPhones are crazy expensive and I think people who purchase android devices are informed computer literate people who don't want to spend major cash on a new phone and want a phone with a similar feature set to an iPhone. These people also tend to be bitter towards iPhone users, sometimes even calling them names which are bizarre."
Both phones have proven to be awesome, although stats show that there are more iPhone users than Android users, the number of Android users are increasingly daily. iPhone and Android offer cool features that suit different kind of people. We definitely haven't seen or heard the last of this debate. If you a loyal iPhone or Android user let us know what you think. We love hearing from you.

For a bunch of techies that was a remarkably subjective, emotive, discussion.

Sorry Murray, we tried to get a serious debate going, but it caused a huge divide in the Realm family. We had to put it behind us. Only 1 Realmer has a Black Berry so they were crushed immediately, they never made the list.

I have a BB but do not think it is the gold standard. my next "phone" will be an Android as I am not swayed by the hype or rhetoric Apple (Steve Jobs:"We didn't go into search so what are google doing going into phones" ).
