Poken states they are not in competition with Facebook or any other network, but rather look towards bringing social networks together to share information between users. Poken, introduced to South Africa in 2009, is being used to target networking events. Poken Africa have recently entered Kenya, and are targeting many local events in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
