Our investment by the Shuttleworth Foundation gave us the option of hiring in-house developers or contracting one of many excellent Cape Town software companies. In the end, Realm simply ticked more important boxes for us: their low staff turnover is impressive, and gave me peace of mind that the team would be stable. Keeping architecture, development, design, and project management in-house meant I was confident we'd get great work, and that briefings and handovers among team members would be smooth. Realm's experience with book-industry data feeds and taxonomies is important, since these feeds are notoriously tricky. And we benefit from Wesley Lynch's dedication to the broader South African startup scene. I was confident he and his team would feel like partners who cared about our growth, and supported our approach to writing open-licensed software. So far, this has all been true of our experience working on Paperight's new platform.
