Draw Something highlights smartphone creativity by Suhaifa Naidoo | 20 April 2012 | 0 Comments
Milions of people worldwide are now addicted to the new social drawing game, Draw Something. Users begin by choosing 1 out of 3 words and drawing that word for their opponent to guess and vice versa. The App is available for download across Android and iOS devices including the iPod Touch. With over 20 million downloads, Draw Something's creators OMGPOP have continuously been involved in making sure both free and paid for Apps provide the best user experience to its users.
But, how does an App go viral so quickly without any marketing or pr? Why is Draw Something dominating mobile App stores and what is the difference between this game and so many others out there. When searching for images in Google lately there are many Draw Something drawings appearing, how did this happen so fast?
Dan Porter, CEO of OMGPOP, says that Draw Something is just awesome and social. And I can definitely vouch for that. The games' main premise is around being social. This is a multi-player game and therefore encourages users to invite their friends to play with them. Draw Something connects with Facebook so it makes social inviting relatively easy. For those who may not use Facebook or have invited all their Facebook friends, you have the option of playing against someone by knowing their username or choosing a random player from anywhere in the world. Although users can become quite competitive, the game is simple, light hearted and fun. It definitely is awesome.
Although my artistic side has never reared it's head, I continue to play Draw Something and definitely enjoying it. My drawings may lack creativity but there are many others out there who are rocking this game.
These are some of the drawings done on Draw Something.
